Bringing one of the most iconic plays ever written to the Malthouse stage, we are unusually bringing you a whole school play: Romeo and Juliet. With over eighty pupils across all ages, this is set to be an extravaganza like none before.

An age-old vendetta between two powerful families erupts into bloodshed. A group of masked Montagues risk further conflict by gate-crashing a Capulet party. A young lovesick Romeo Montague falls instantly in love with Juliet Capulet, who is due to marry her father’s choice, the County Paris. With the help of Juliet’s nurse, the women arrange for the couple to marry the next day, but Romeo’s attempt to halt a street fight leads to the death of Tybalt, for which Romeo is banished. A desperate situation quickly turns worse.

Set against a backdrop of 90’s pop classics, this new adaptation explores what it means to be young and in love and allows our pupils to showcase their skills not only in Shakespearean verse, but new scenes with a more contemporary feel, alongside song and dance.
