The Gala Symphony Concert

Wed 3 July 2024

Shirley Hall

19:30 – 22:00

As King’s Week draws to a close, we open the Gala Symphony Concert with a feast of instrumental skill, featuring the Trumpet Concerto by Hummell, Saint-Saëns’ Allegro Appassionato for cello and orchestra, the contemporary Australian composer Hindson’s House Music for flute and orchestra and, to conclude this epic first half, the opening movement from Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto. After the interval, the Symphony Orchestra will bring King’s Week to a close with a full performance of Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony, ‘From the New World’.

Black tie has traditionally been worn and is encouraged but if you do not have, or would feel uncomfortable in, black tie then please do feel free to wear other smart attire.

Those coming by car are advised to use the public car parks in either St Radigund’s Street or Broad Street. Parking in The Precincts is restricted.
