The Gala Symphony Concert

Wed 1 July 2026

Shirley Hall

19:30 – 22:00

£15

As King’s Week draws to a close, we celebrate with the traditional Gala Symphony Concert, performed by the Symphony Orchestra and selected 6a soloists. The concert opens with the dramatic atmosphere of Mussorgsky’s Night on a Bare Mountain, before moving through selected movements from Herbert’s Cello Concerto No. 1, Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Kapustin’s jazz‑tinged Piano Concerto No. 2, and Brahms’s expansive Piano Concerto No. 2. The evening concludes on a particularly rhythmic note with Arnold’s Cornish Dances and Márquez’s much‑loved Danzón No. 2.

Black tie has traditionally been worn and is encouraged but if you do not have, or would feel uncomfortable in, black tie then please do feel free to wear other smart attire.
